Workshop

My sister and her daughters came visiting this past week, and we very spontaneously [planning would be out of character] decided to give outlet to our creativity. I still had some burlap material from Santa's elves and after a visit to the corner flea market (which we nearly bought out), we had enough supplies to hold a workshop together.

Nichtje Jolien deed ook gezellig mee.
My niece Jolien worked on the crafts, too.

Er werd heel fanatiek geknutseld. Hier wat creaties van zuslief...
We went to crafting like crazy. Here are some of my dear sister's creations....

Won't it look warm and cozy in her house....

The burlap was wrapped around some old canning jars, which we bought at the corner store for a song. And, as you see, Schubert joined in again, too; this time cut up to be a reindeer's head.

Sawed up pallet planks were recreated into beautiful signboards.

The Papa's sweetie pie board will be hung up in Jolien's bedroom.
Precious, isn't it?

The Mama's little boy board is for our little Job...

Here are a few more handmade creations. It's so neat what you can make with a little burlap and lace. Instead of canning jars, you can also use an empty jelly jar and wrap the burlap around it. A candle inside, and it's done.

Lampenkapje opnieuw bekleed.

The lampshade is also newly decorated.

Bedankt tante Luus!

This is how it looked after everything was cleaned up [you should have seen it before it was cleaned up!]. For those who think La Maison Crook is too WHITE... it'll be a comfort that the dining room chairs have all received different colors.

And, last but not least, the beautiful bouquet of colorful roses on the table were given to me by a dear aunt. Thanks Aunt Luus!

Fijne week allemaal!

Veel liefs,

Liesbeth

Homemade

Between everything else in the past weeks, I've gotten back into crafts, painting, taking pictures, decorating, and once again decorating. [Imagine that.]

I had some brown linen material, a little lace, some cord and music books from the past, and after some cutting and gluing, this is the result.
Don't let my old fluit teacher hear that I've cut up Schubert!

En nog eentje...

And another one... [poor Schubert]

So, once again we've created in a budget-friendly manner some cozy corners in the Crook house for the coming winter.

Dit werd het volgende project:
This was the next project:
I found these posters in Paris some years ago. The wooden frames are from the Action [no comment] but my hubby didn't think the orange looked very nice. And considering that I wasn't crazy about it either, was he in luck: I gave them a lick of light-rose paint.:)
I was rather pleased with myself, and I immediately hung them up in the kitchen.

'Winterhoekje' in de keuken...
The winter corner in the kitchen...

I found these hearts by the Zeeman. They're just precious...
The tin can is a good place to store my candles.

Even een overzicht:
An overview:

So now you're all a little more informed about the latest developments. [But I still can't find my hats and the kleenex box has disappeared again!!] Until next time...
Fijne dag!

Peculiarities in Pillows

When I first came to Holland to visit my wife-to-be, I was astounded by the number of pillows she had lying all over her bed. Not pillows to lay your head upon, but rather the little pillows of various shape and color and size but generally limited functionality. Having gotten past the predominant pinks and reds and the uncountable hearts, I still pause to contemplate the risks and costs of this fetish. The risk of spraining an ankle as you stumble over the mountain of pillows between you and the toilet at 3AM and the costs of gathering 53 pillows every morning as you make the bed and head to breakfast. Having observed my wife's frenetic morning rituals, I simply marvel.

Three years of marriage have not ended this fetish, though until recently  I had thought I had become relatively accustomed to this particular peculiarity of my spouse. Accustomed to moving pillows out of the way in order to find a place to sit on the couch. Accustomed to moving pillows out of the way when I have to store something in the attic. Accustomed to the pillows with their various messages. Next to the pillow with the word HOME sewn upon it is a pillow with the image of a postcard, with text in English, French, Spanish, Russian, and Polish. There is also another pillow with the image of an envelope with various stamps and illegible writing.

But the most recent addition to the couch has left me dumbfounded. This pillow is emblazoned with bold black letters: CAUTION: 800 CRTG, 5 Ball, 1 Tracer. What is someone to think as they eye the couch and all nine pillows upon it? It's a rather confusing message: Home, Caution, Carte Postale. Choosing a seat on our couch suddenly resembles a cross between musical chairs and a sort of Russian roulette. So when our next guests come visiting, I'll hang up their coats in the closet and guide them to the couch, where they may, with care, choose their fate amongst the pillows. As for me, I'll just grab a chair from the kitchen.

Herfststukje

Recently it was my birthday and got this beautiful autumn-decoration from my mother...

I enjoy it alot, it's only that my dear son of 10 months pulls himself up at the table since today and thinks it's very interesting to touch it...:)

So during the day we'll have to find a different spot for it....;)

Fijne dag!

Slaapkamer

This is a delightful corner in our bedroom. The chair is from Ikea. We bought the four-poster bed and nightstands via Maisons du monde.

Indispensable in every house...a chest of drawers. I found it when I was actually searching for something completely different and was immediately in love. At that time, I was riding around in a lilliputian automobile. I don't know how I managed to take this thing with me, but he just had to fit. And I've enjoyed it for years! The antique mirror was given to me by a sweet sister. They all fit together very well.

This antique closet comes from Gouda. Though the original plan was to paint it white, I just haven't been able to get it over my heart. What do you think?

Below is another cute sign I found in Ohio.

Fijne week allemaal!
Have a great week!
